Engineering for Kids STEM Club Grades K-3 Calling new AND returning students! The Engineering for Kids STEM Club introduces students to new hands-on lessons featuring STEM topics. For each lesson, students focus on developing 21st Century skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and peer collaboration. These life skills provide students with the confidence to approach challenges in their lives and realize that they can succeed in almost anything! Level Time Location 6-week session fee Grades K-3 3:50 - 4:50 pm Shirley Hills Room 109B Hilltop Art Room $149 Session I classes: Tuesdays, February 2 - March 16 (no class February 16) 3:50 - 4:50 pm Hilltop Primary School - Art Room #2038-A21W $149 or Thursdays, February 4 - March 18 (no class February 18) 3:50 - 4:50 pm Shirley Hills Primary School - Room 109B #2038-B21W $149 Week 1 Civil Engineering - Hansel and Gretel Challenge Students will explore the field of civil engineering by creating a shelter for Hansel and Gretel Week 2 Industrial Engineering - Little Red's Basket Students will be challenged to create a basket for Little Red Riding Hood that can hold the most items Week 3 Acoustic Engineering - Let's Drum! Students learn about drums, how they make sounds and learn about rhythms. Students will design and build their own drums Week 4 Mechanical Engineering - Hickory Dickory Pendulum Students will learn what a pendulum is and how it works. While exploring the physics of pendulums, they are also introduced to Newton's first law of motion - about continuous motion and inertia, and build their own simple pendulum Week 5 Mechanical Engineering - Spinner Students create a spinner toy and learn that a spinning object uses momentum, which keeps it moving Week 6 Civil Engineering - Billy Goat's Bridge Challenge Students will explore civil engineering and understand how bridges are designed. They will be challenged to create their own bridges to carry the most weight Session II classes: Tuesdays, April 6 - May 11 3:50 - 4:50 pm Hilltop Primary School - Art Room #2038-C21W $149 or Thursdays, April 8 - May 13 3:50 - 4:50 pm Shirley Hills Primary School - Media Center #2038-D21W $149 Week 1 Environmental Engineering - Trash to Treasure Students will learn the important of saving the environment and try to invent something useful with leftover materials that are provided Week 2 Marine Engineering - Gingerbread Man's Escape Students explore marine engineering and construct a boat to help the Gingerbread Man escape Week 3 Acoustic Engineering - Harmonica Students explore sound and make music with their own harmonica Week 4 Mechanical Engineering - Worm Puppets Students explore mechanical engineering and engineer their own worm puppet Week 5 Aerospace Engineering - Glider Students learn about aerospace engineering, understand the principles of flight, and apply them to make their own glider Week 6 Jr. Civil Engineering - Three Little Pigs Challenge Using the materials provided, can you create a house for your pig that can withstand the effects of different wind speeds?
