    Entering Grades 3 & 4: Westonka Youth Football - Flag Football League Entering Grades 5 & 6: Westonka Youth Football - WCHA Tackle Football League For More Information About Westonka Youth Football Please Visit : www.westonkayouthsports.org/westonkayouthfootball The Westonka Youth Football program provides a great opportunity for kids to participate in organized skills development, flag football, and tackle football. The Westonka Youth Football program begins in Kindergarten with a developmental skills program that runs through Grade 2. In Grades 3 & 4, the Westonka Youth Football program forms flag football teams and participates in an in-house program. In Grades 5 & 6 the Westonka Youth Football program forms tackle football teams and competes against other area programs/schools, including Dassel-Cokato, Delano, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Maple Lake, Rockford, and Watertown-Mayer in the Wright, Carver, and Hennepin Area (WCHA) Football League. There will be a mandatory coaches meeting and training the week of Monday, August 5. More information to come. WYF FLAG FOOTBALL (GRADES 3 & 4) A mandatory Grades 3 & 4 Flag Football kick off will take place on Monday, August 19 at 6:00 pm at MWHS Field # 12 so coaches, players and families can have a chance to connect. Practices will begin on Tuesday, August 20 and a preseason game will take place on Thursday, August 29. Practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at various Westonka locations including Field #12 (Track) and Field #10 (JV Baseball Field). Games will only take place on Saturdays and will officially begin on Saturday, September 7. The season will conclude on Saturday, October 12. Flag football participants will receive a league /team t-shirt that they are able to keep at the conclusion of the season. * A parent/guardian/responsible Adult for each player must be present during all practice and game sessions * WYF TACKLE FOOTBALL (GRADES 5 & 6) Grades 5 & 6 Tackle Football Player Evaluations will take place on Monday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 13 beginning at 6:00 pm at the MWHS South Practice Fields (next to the WAC). Practices will begin on Thursday, August 15 and games will begin after Labor Day and run until mid-October. Practices will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at the MWHS South Practice Fields (next to the WAC). Games will only take place on Saturdays. Games run approximately 90 minutes. The 2024 season will conclude on Saturday, October 12. UNIFORMS Tackle Football Jerseys: WYF purchases and collects game jerseys at the conclusion of each season. If a game jersey is not returned at the conclusion of the season, that player/family will be charged an additional $75 fee by WYF to replace the game jersey that was unaccounted for. GRADES 5 & 6 | TACKLE FOOTBALL EQUIPMENT NEEDED Items that must be purchased by the parents include; white football pants with pads, white helmet with a hard chin strap, cleats (no metal cleats allowed), shoulder pads, mouth guards, a red or white practice jersey, and a protective cup (optional). Game jerseys are provided and will be handed out at practice before games begin. Game Jerseys will be returned back to WYF at the conclusion of the season. Players will learn the base plays of the Mound Westonka offense, base fronts, and coverages on defense. Participants will be grouped according to age and/or ability level. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt.
