3D Printing: Build Your Own Robot Grades 4 - 8 3D Printing is here to stay! This class is for students who have no or limited experience with 3D Printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design, and see their creations come to life. Students will be learning the ropes of 3D modeling and printing and use Tinkercad to design parts for their robots. By the end of the week, they will have two DC-powered robots - a sketchbot and a drive bot. Students must be comfortable with using a laptop and mouse to design their creations. This class is for students who have no or limited experience with 3D Printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design, and see their creations come to life. Students will be learning the ropes of 3D modeling and printing. They will use Tinkercad to design basic Minecraft creations from scratch using the Engineering Design Process, and choose two to print in class to take home. To allow everyone to print their creations, items may have to be scaled down to allow printing during class times. Drone Maker Engineering Camp Grades 4 - 8 The Drone Maker Engineering Camp is an engaging, hands-on experience that combines theory with practical application. Designed for beginners, students will work in teams of three and use special classroom drones to learn about drones, the principles of flight, and their real-world applications. Each day, students will engineer their drones to complete a new mission like package delivery, firefighting and medical missions. GMS Band Camp Entering Grades 5 These camps are for students who want to get a head start for the upcoming school year. Students in the beginner group will learn the basics of their instrument in a combination of large and small group sessions. These include how to care for their instrument, putting the instrument together, getting a good tone, and how to work together. Small group sessions will be led by experts on woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. Students in the advanced group will have the opportunity to continue their progress on their chosen instrument in the same type of small and large groups. Grandview Middle School Musical - Newsies Jr. Grades 5 - 8 Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies Jr. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies Jr. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart. All students must be registered prior to audition Auditions for Grades 5 and 6 will take place Wednesday, September 11, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and Grades 7 and 8 will take place Thursday, September 12 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. All auditions will begin in the GMS Cafeteria. A rehearsal schedule will be sent home and updated on Schoology to allow for family scheduling. Rehearsals will be Monday - Friday, but not every character will have rehearsal each day. Actors are allowed three missed rehearsals with prior notice to the directors. Any more missed rehearsals will be reviewed by the directors and subject to removal from the cast without a refund. An informational meeting will be held on Monday, September 23 at 5:00 pm in the GMS Cafeteria. Performances are Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22 at 7 pm, Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24 at 2 pm at the Westonka Performing Arts Center.
