    Day Camp at Voyageur Environmental Center Entering Grades K-6 No childcare the last week of summer vacation? We’ve got you covered! This week will be a fun outdoor camp experience - not far from home! Pick the days your child needs care, or have them come all four days! Each day will include activities such as archery, canoeing, outdoor living skills, fishing, field games, swimming, arts and crafts, team building, hiking, and more! This unique opportunity will take place at Voyageur Environmental camp, a year round environmental education center located at 7000 County Road 15, Mound. * Campers will need to bring their own bag lunch, two snacks, water bottle, swim suit, towel, sunscreen, and bug spray each day.     Babysitter Safety Training Ages 11 and up Boys and girls ages 11+ learn skill training and information that is necessary in caring for infants and children in this American Health & Safety Institute accredited program. This program will teach the importance of responsibility, recognizing an emergency, emergency action steps, personal safety, fire and water safety, infant/child basic care, and also, responding to an unconscious victim, CPR, choking management and basic first aid. Upon successful completion, participants will earn the American Health & Safety Institute Child and Babysitting Safety certification card.     Ceramics with Ms. Bodine Ages 8 - 12 Make your own clay bowl, plate, cup, or sculpture. On the first day of class, we will learn to build our object. On the second day of camp, Ms. Bodine will show glazing techniques such as underglaze and sgraffito and then will allow the objects to dry and clear glaze them for return about a month later.     Fiber Arts with Ms. Bodine Ages 8 - 12 On the first two days of class students will learn about natural dyeing. They will get skeins of wool yarn to dye with a variety of dye baths including marigold, cosmos, and chamomile flowers. Then students will dye their yarn using Japanese Indigo leaves. Ms. Bodine will be growing all of the dye plants used for the class. Finally, students will use the colored yarn they dyed to make an art weaving using a 9 x 12 loom.     Math Skills Boost Camp We are offering two different skills boost camps that are designed for varying level learners. Teaching will be differentiated to meet students at their learning level. Learning or reading skill losses during the summer months are cumulative and can affect school year achievement. Our goal through these camps is to give students a jump-start on their school year and help boost their math and/or reading skills. These small group sessions are taught by Westonka district teachers and the curriculum used aligns with the district curriculum. Math Skills Boost Camp Entering Grades 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 Give your child’s math skills a boost this summer! Specifically, the selected math curriculum will align with key skills (number sense, fact fluency, place value, improving problem solving skills, and more) which are required for math success at each level.     Ready to Rise Reading Program Entering Grades 1 - 4 This engaging Wilson Language Training® course is designed to foster a love for reading while building essential foundational skills in reading fluency, decoding, and transcription. Class sizes will be very small (five or less) for personalized instruction and assessment. Key focus areas are reading fluency, decoding skills, and transcription skills. This reading adventure summer program is tailored for students entering Grades 1 - 4. REgister early as spots will fill fast!     SafeKids 101 Ages 8 - 12 Preparing kids to stay safe at home and in the community! Does your child ages eight - 12 years old want to stay home alone after school? Get your child trained with SafeKids 101 and both of you will feel more confident about their safety at home and in the community. This program is full of important safety principles. This program teaches what all parents want their children to know about safety! Topics include: staying home alone, answering the door or the telephone, basic first aid including burns, injuries, wounds and bandaging, poisoning, and choking emergencies. Natural emergencies also included such as storms and fire emergency training. Stranger danger…Straight talk with honest answers.
