    Beginning Wood carving: Northern Cardinal Ages 13 - Adult (ages 12 and under allowed with registered adult) Instructor Matt Bruch Perhaps there is no bird more beloved than the Northern Cardinal. With its bright red plumage, the Cardinal brings a splash of color to our Minnesota winter landscape. A sighting brings joy to all who behold it. Join woodcarver Matt Bruch in creating one to brighten your own home this winter. This class is an introduction to traditional Scandinavian wood carving. Students will transform a basswood block into a carved and painted Northern Cardinal. We will practice several knife grips to safely and effectively shape the wood. Students will learn techniques for applying paint and a wax finish. We will also cover how to sharpen and maintain tools. Participants are expected to bring their own knife and safety glove to class. Please see the special notes below regarding required tools and how to purchase them. Materials (wood blanks, paint, brushes, and wax) will be provided. Additional blanks will be available for cash purchase in class. Youth ages 12 and under can participate with a registered adult.     Adult Enrichment | VOCE Community Choir VOCE Community Choir is a new adult mixed choral ensemble, directed by Kelly Newell. The mission of this choir is to provide singers an opportunity to sing quality repertoire at a high level, and have a rewarding adult choral experience. We will share our concert programs with the Mound community at local venues. Donations collected at concerts will help support non-profit organizations within our community. Past beneficiaries include the Sponsor a Student Program and the Wings Up Scholarship Fund. Through singing we can connect, share the gift of music and give back to the community of Mound. ~ This Spring, VOCE Community Chorus will perform its concert series on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 singing choral music by composers Ola Gjeilo, Jake Runestad, Craig Hella Johnson, Susan LaBarr, and Kyle Pederson. They will also perform world music from Estonia and a piece from Haiti.
